Conserving Scotland’s Industrial Heritage: An Intern’s Experience
Welcome to the Powering Our People conservation internship Blog!
Over the course of the next year I will be using this page to post updates from my 12-month internship with AOC Archaeology and Go Industrial, which will provide me with a unique opportunity to engage with the collections, but more importantly with the staff & volunteers, behind Scotland’s Industrial Heritage.
Funded through the Institute of Conservation, this internship is made possible by Powering Our People, a nationwide project aimed at addressing the gap in conservation skills and specialist training within industrial heritage institutions across Scotland. Generously supported by a number of organisations, including the Pilgrim Trust and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the goal is to provide a legacy of conservation by equipping workforces with the skills and resources to care for these nationally significant collections for future generations.
Following visits to each of the Go Industrial Member Museums, I will be working with AOC Archaeology conservators to identify what training and collections care is needed to ensure the preservation of Scotland’s Industrial Heritage. Stay tuned to find out more about these interesting and diverse collections, and the challenging work that goes into caring for them!
