A Medieval Dress Pin

This lovely little copper-alloy pin may date to the 8th or 9th century. There are faint traces of decoration on the head disc-shaped head, and a collar between the head and the shaft.

Our conservators removed corrosion and soil deposits using hand tools and swabs moistened with solvents. The surface was then stabilised and lacquered. A lozenge-shaped detail on the head is more clearly visible as a result of our team’s careful work.
