The Archaeologists' Tale from Clandon Park
AOC's field team have faced a Herculean challenge as they worked to record and conserve the remains of the historic property of Clandon House following a devastating fire in 2015. In some areas, over 1.5m of burnt debris and rubble had to be carefully excavated, following the collapse of the building's four floors. The work has been hugely rewarding, however, with hundreds of beautiful artefacts and fragments of the furnishings of the Palladian house discovered beneath the rubble.
The National Trust have documented the rescue project in a series of blog posts, the most recent of which features an interview with AOC Project Manager Catherine Edwards. You can read the full article here.
