Cullen Cockburn

 Cullen Cockburn joined the AOC team in 2020, following his graduation from Glasgow University, where he achieved a First-class MA in Archaeology and History. Before joining AOC Cullen participated in several small community excavations and research digs within Scotland, while working in the tourism industry.

Since joining AOC Cullen has been on excavations ranging from the Shetland Archipelago to Southern Kent. Studying under some of AOCs best archaeologists. He has Participated in both large-scale infrastructure projects such as HS2 to smaller more intricate sites in central Scotland. These excavations have included everything from urban to rural sites, spanning the periods between the Early Modern Era and the Mesolithic.

 During this time Cullen has developed expertise utilising GPS technology, working with preserved wood in wetland conditions, handling human remains, drawing complex structures, and writing reports. Expertise he intends to develop as time goes on.

 His main archaeological interests are in the early medieval sites of Northern England and Southern Scotland focusing on the period of Roman decline after c.300CE to the establishment of kingdoms by c.800CE. Cullen also enjoys theoretical archaeology which he based his dissertation on, examining how ideas can be perpetuated and enhanced through objects, in early medieval settings.
