Project Officer (Post-Excavation)

Jackaline has worked extensively on archaeological sites throughout Britain and Ireland dated from the pre-historic to the post medieval period. Her work is focused on analysing carbonised and waterlogged macroplant assemblages, faunal remains, charcoal, waterlogged wood and marine shell.  She also oversees all sample processing and the archiving of biological finds. Jackaline is also involved with assisting with community outreach projects for post excavation. 

Previous work has concentrated on the analysis of the medieval and post medieval animal bone assemblages from Advocates Close, Calton Gate and Cannongate Venture in Edinburgh. These results will be joined by the recent excavations at India Buildings which have unearthed an impressive assemblage of animal bones including cattle skulls from what appears to be an archaeologically significant bone working site. Ongoing analysis is currently focused on the macroplant and animal bone remains recovered from the pre-historic Clachtoll Broch in Assynt and the Iron Age settlement at Black Loch of Mryton in Dumfries.

Jackaline has presented her research on plant macrofossil remains at several international conferences, including at the European Association of Archaeologists in Glasgow 2015 and Maastricht 2017.
