Kate Mawson

Project Supervisor

Kate joined AOC in 2015 as a project site assistant, working in the fieldwork department on numerous projects advancing her skills in excavation, recording and survey. During this period Kate worked on evaluations and excavations on both rural and urban sites such as Neolithic flint scatters at Guildford Fire Station, St John the Evangelist’s cemetery, Redhill, Prehistoric burnt mounds in Berkshire and historic building recordings in Southwark. Kate has also been trained in geophysical survey and used on such sites as Manston Airport, Birmingham Pipeline and HS2.  

Kate has developed strong skills for watching briefs in terms of liaising between groundworkers, client and consultant, and overall management on timelines and programmes. Kate was promoted to Project Supervisor in 2018 and now runs rural evaluations across the country as well as completing the post excavation reporting.

Kate enjoys engaging with the public and helped to run community digs at Upminster Windmill and Eastcote Manor House. Her roles have involved instructing adult volunteers on how to excavate and record as well as running a ‘school’ trench to allow organized school visits to learn the basics of archaeology.

Kate has developed her surveying skills since joining AOC and is now trained in using the Trimble GPS and from her work with Historic England, also now has training in Intrasis and the Leica Total Station. Kate has certificates in Asbestos Awareness and First Aid.

Kate has 12 years’ wealth of experience outside of the world of archaeology, where following graduation has worked various winter seasons in Austria, taught English as a Foreign Language in Rome, undertook the CIPD Foundation in HR practice, worked in property PR in London and most recently an office manager in Windsor.
