Kylie McDermott MA BA
Finds & Archives Officer
Kylie started her career in archaeology in Australia in 2010 with Dr Vincent Clark and Associates, after completing her BA in Arts (Archaeology Major). Working as a field archaeologist she also contributed to report writing, produced finds catalogues and provided artefact identification.
After completing her MA in the Classical Mediterranean at the University of Leicester, Kylie undertook voluntary work with Historic Royal Palaces in the Archaeology and Curatorial departments. She assisted with excavation and building recording at the Tower of London, Kensington Palace and Banqueting House, as well as undertaking historical research and map regression analysis.
In 2014, Kylie was employed by Historic Royal Palaces to process finds as a part of the organisation’s restructure of its archaeological archive. Later that year, she worked as a Site Assistant for PCA Archaeology, excavating on several multi-phase sites in London, ranging from Roman to post medieval in date. She also worked on the excavation of Poet’s Corner Yard at Westminster Abbey.
Starting with AOC Archaeology in 2015, Kylie was employed as an Archaeological Processor for the National Trust Clandon Park Salvage Project. Working closely with National Trust conservators, she undertook cleaning and preventative conservation on the collection pieces recovered from the fire damaged property, including ceramics, textiles and decorative wall plaster from the renowned Neo-Palladian Marble Hall. She also managed the cataloguing and identification of the salvaged ceramic objects. Kylie has also completed fieldwork on projects including the Fire-Station, Guildford and Crowthorne (both prehistoric sites) and the Roman to post medieval site at Walsingham House, Seething Lane, London.
In July 2015, Kylie began her current role as Finds and Archives Officer for the AOC Archaeology London office. In addition to supervising finds and environmental processing, and preparing archives for museum deposition, Kylie also writes find reports, specialising in post-medieval pottery and clay tobacco pipes.
