Following completion of an MA in Post-excavation skills at the University of Leicester, from 1995 Mike worked as an archaeologist in both Scotland and England before joining AOC Archaeology in 2004. He worked in the Fieldwork and Consultancy sectors before taking up his current post in the Post-excavation sector.  

As a Post-excavation Project Manager, he oversees a wide range of projects (from prehistoric and Early Historic Orkney to post-medieval Edinburgh) progressing them from the completion of fieldwork to their publication, whether in academic journals or more popular periodicals.

For AOC he directed substantial medieval/post-medieval excavations in Edinburgh (Parliament House), Aberdeen (Bon Accord Centre) and Dunbar (High Street). Within the Consultancy sector, he has undertaken both Desk Based Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments for proposed developments across Scotland and England.
