A Sunflower, Weary of Time

This gorgeous pin dates to the Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC-800 BC). It is known as a sunflower-headed pin due to the circular shape of the head with its concentric circles.

The pin needed a little attention to keep it in good shape. Our conservators consolidated areas where the metal’s surface had become loose. They removed soil deposits using hand tools and swabs moistened with solvents, and stabilised the metal before adding a protective layer of lacquer. Weary of time no longer, the pin will look great when the time comes for it to go on display in Perth’s new museum.
