Outreach & Education
AOC has a strong passion for involving local communities in their heritage. In our most recent CIFA inspection we were highly commended for our ‘...impressive programme of community archaeology and public outreach’ and that ‘...public outreach and communication can now be seen as being at the forefront of AOC’s organisational output’.
In the last few years we have worked with over 20 community groups and Trusts. During this time we have trained over 1000 volunteers, welcomed over 1000 school children to site, encouraged 250 people to take part in post-excavation workshops, and presented lectures to over 1000 people.
We have a designated Public Archaeology team dedicated to working closely with local communities to design and deliver outreach projects. By offering support and mentoring in the areas of project development and project management allied to advice on often complex funding processes we work with local communities to plan, develop and deliver their heritage aspirations in an ethical and sustainable way.
